New social network to learn to be a farmer

Not only Facebook and Twitter link people each other. In the World Wide Web, many other directory were born with the aim to help people sharing same interests. One of these interests is the environmental sustainability and Wiser.org, Zoes.it and Growtheplanet.com are only some examples among the most important social networks about ecology and social justice.

Growing attention to environmental protection, worry about energy crisis and problems concerning climatic change make people more and more aware of sustainability and so, Wiser.org was born. WISER is the acronym of World Index for Social and Environmental Responsibility and Wiser.org first was a list of non-profit organizations involved in this issue and, then, it has been evolving in a real social network. Besides including government agencies and pro-profit businesses too, Wiser.org is now an online directory with status updates, groups, email messaging and likes. Launched for the first time the 22nd April 2007, on Earth Day, today Wiser.org is a free virtual place where people can share their experiences, can take part in specific groups and even can post a social or environmental problem in a “solution form” that is a page where every users can propose a solution or a suggestion to solve it. Last but not least, Wiser.org is advertising free.

As well as Wiser.org is a sustainability international social network, in Italy others directories have been developing in the last years: Zoes.it is one of these. The purpose of Zoes.it is to become a point of reference for everyone wants to build a better future, wants to share sustainable lifestyles and wants to give their support to overcome ecological and economic crisis. But Zoes.it is not only a social network, it is also an e-commerce directory for fair trade. Moreover, it maps and connects all consumers, entrepreneurs, non-governmental organizations and public administrations addressing spread of sustainability culture.

Particular in its kind is the Italian Grow the Planet. As Farmville on Facebook has been becoming so popular, Grotheplanet.com would like to grow to be a point of contact for everyone cultivates a garden or wants just try it. Even “urban farmer” can share their passion for kitchen garden and expert growers can give their contribute with advice about sowing and lunar phases. But Grotheplanet.com is also a place where to exchange recipes based on what has been growing on your balcony.
